In our inaugural Publisher of the Month (POM) article, we wanted to introduce you to RecipeBridge, a wonderful site that’s part of the Gourmet Ads network which represents quality food and wine websites throughout the world. We asked them a few questions to find out more about them and hear how they’re benefiting from social media.

What is RecipeBridge?
RecipeBridge is a dedicated Recipe Search Engine. Cooks can find millions of recipes from websites around the globe, indexed by ingredient, key word, recipe name of course, and even by brand name if it happens to be a branded recipe. For example a simple search of “chicken,” will bring up more than 131,000 Chicken Recipes, which can then be refined in order to locate the perfect chicken dish.

How many sites contribute to your search engine?
As of now we’ve indexed just over 300 sites, and there are more than 100 sites in the queue waiting to be crawled.

How important is social media to your business?
Social media is exceptionally important. It’s a time-honored tradition for recipes to be shared and passed down. Social media sites are the new way of doing that. For some time now, we’ve had staff engaging followers on Facebook and Twitter, highlighting new, interesting, or timely seasonal recipes. Most recently we’ve added a person to the team to just manage our Pinterest account . Recipes are very visual, so Pinterest is the perfect forum for sharing them. Last week we pinned our 1000th recipe!

How has Po.st helped you achieve your goals in reaching your audiences?
We found that connecting to each of the social networking sites on page load was causing latency issues on the page. By using Po.st we found there is no lag at all. Also, all the icons are consistent, which is great from a design point of view. Lastly, we now have analytics to tell us what people are doing socially on the site, what social networks are the most used, what pages are engaging them and what they are sharing. This means we can save time and money by focusing on those sites that are most active in terms of recipe searching and sharing.

What are some of the things people should expect from RecipeBridge in the coming months?
RecipeBridge will soon have a great and simple mobile site. It’s in development right now and will debut in the summer. This came as a result of walking down the grocery aisle and trying to search recipes while shopping for that night’s dinner. We figured it was time to go mobile.

What are some of your favourite recipes visitors should look into this summer?
As the weather is warming up, it’s time to get grilling so why not try some steak recipes or my favourite, BBQ Ribs. Summer salads, with all manner of ingredients from watermelon to squash, are also particularly sought after for outdoor entertaining.
